This project was conceptualised after the demonitisation of the 500 and 1000 rupee notes by the Indian Government on the 16th of October 2016. As a consequence of this, India's heavily cash-dependant economy found itself in a state of chaos resulting in several loss of lives.
Over the course of one year, we spent time researching and documenting stories of people who were affected by this "financial disaster". These stories then took the form of a conceptual art project wherein we hand-embroidered the names of all the people who lost their lives on handkerchiefs. Other parts of the makng of the handkerchiefs were outsourced to embroiderers who added motifs taken from the banned notes onto each handkerchief.

The making and using of the images that were then taken of these handkerchiefs are a symbol of mourning as well as an acknowledgment of the many lives that were lost because of this disaster.
